Research Paper_Reflection

Research Paper Reflection

My topic of the research paper is “The Characteristics of Fluidity and Transparency in Art and Architecture.” It is about a concept of design works. I have to try to explain it clearly. So I read some books and information and analyze two cases to present this topic.

Sang teaches us how to write the paper. We discuss the writing skill such as the titles, using specific to general or narrative style to write the paper, etc. These information let me have diverse ways to think and arrange my study. Then the teacher teaches us the APA-Style. I learned how and why we could use the citation, how to make the reference list, etc. It is my first time to learn the academic paper style of other countries. It is very useful because I will use it when I write the paper in the United States.

The other topic I learn is the plagiarism. We should clarify the ideas and words are from others or made by ourselves. We also discuss about the common sense of the plagiarism. Because sometimes we think the words and ideas are common sense in our majors, we didn’t use the citation. Then teacher takes some examples to let us more understand the topic. After we wrote every draft, Sang gives us many comments. These comments let me think more deeply and explain my topic more clearly. It is a good experience and I really learn a lot.

Plagiarism discussion

Plagiarism

In this case of study, Igor Zakarov a Russian student bought a paper from his friend George to submit to Professor Graham because he has some problems such as lack of time, poor grammar, pressure and not to mention the need to get the high grade in order to graduate earlier. Even though George said that it will be no problem to buy a paper, Professor Graham was suspicious and found out it was not Igor’s paper.

We could guess that Igor bought the paper from George.
The reason why we think that way is that not only he didn’t know how serious the plagiarism is in the United States, but also he was convinced by George that nothing was going to happen. However, contrary to the George’s opinion, we know that it can make a serious problem. Even though a substantial number of students have been tempted to plagiarize, we think this should not be accepted in any situation.

At first, schools should teach their students the meaning and consequences of plagiarism as soon as they get into the school. Moreover, we strongly believe that this kind of Igor’s action should be punished with an F to fail the class .However, we think that the second chance should be given to the students due to the fact that everyone could make a mistake.

Reflection_Artist Statement

Reflection_Artist Statement
Learning this topic was a very important experience to me. At the first assignment of artist statement, I misunderstood the work. So I wrote a reflection of those artists. Until the next class, I was aware of that the artist statement is about myself and is a statement to view the elements of our art or design works. Teacher led us to review the article and analyze the point of the sentences then explained the components. I leant a lot. On another class, we saw the movie of Amy Guggenheim. She taught us how to write an artist statement so I know it is very important to an artist and she gave us several useful and valuable points of view. Then I could use these resources to write my statement.

The other obtainment of this class was I got my classmate’s peer evaluation. Yun Sun gave me many suggestions that I could understand the lack of some components in my statement. Through other person’s view, I could know whether my work is clear enough to make others understand. Although the artist statement is not an art work but I have to let my audience know my concepts of my article. I also had a chance to evaluate Hsin-Wei’s statement. To point out other person’s advantages and disadvantages could make me think and learn this topic more. It was also a meaningful experience. Moreover, after my presentation, teacher gave me the advice that I should make my eye contact with all my audiences and my hands should also be gestured properly. It was very helpful to me because in my future I will have a lot of chances to present so I should learn how to present well.

I appreciate teacher to give us the opportunity to learn this topic. It let me know and think about my motivation, concepts, ideas that why I wanted to study architecture, why I made those designs and what issues I am concerning about. It was a good chance to retrospect myself and help me to think more of my future.
