Artistic Statement_1st Draft

Artistic Statement_1st Draft

As an architecture student, I still learn how to design architecture. There are so many factors will affect the design, such as the concepts, structure, layout of spaces, facilities etc. But the most important thing I learned is we have to point out the design ideas. During studying architecture, we always were asked questions by teachers. They always wanted us to explain our concepts and they would argue them, so we need to present our ideas of the form, and function about design works. Through different opinions of teachers, I could not only review my perspectives that weather they are correct, suitable or not, but also learn to argue in defense of my own standpoint. These experiences let me learn more.

I especially like historic buildings. The atmosphere and wisdoms of ancient people usually let me have different experiences. I have traveled in Beijing and Kyoto. They are both the traditional cities of eastern countries. In a cold morning with snow drifting, I saw an old person in Beijing took the mop with water to practice the calligraphy in the plaza of the Temple of Heaven. Frigid weather let ancient poetry freeze on the tiles. It seemed to make a dialogue with the historical site. I was moved by this scene. Otherwise, during the trip of Kyoto, I saw people devoted themselves to preserve their traditional culture. They make their outward appearance of the residents consistent with the old monuments. Walking on the gravel road of Japanese temple let me have a tranquil moment and peaceful mind. These two places, people both find their ways to live in the historic cities. Furthermore, let me comprehend the connection between the new with the old, the artifact with the nature, and the history with culture.

So I was thinking the historic buildings in Taiwan. They are almost becoming exhibition centers with fewer exhibitions so they could not attract people to visit there. I think we can create more interesting activities there. For example, we can hold the traditional wedding in the Confucius temple with the red lantern and historic buildings. Otherwise, the night market is a special diet culture in Taiwan. There are many vendors sale diverse food at night. People usually go around the market and eat different kinds of food. Then I think we can make the historic warehouse become a savory food center. People can taste delicious food in this building with its special structure and retrospective atmosphere. Because I consider that architecture should make interaction with people. People’s activities and behaviors can bring new vitality to the architecture. Every era will leave many architecture heritages, we should how to reuse and design them.

Although the architecture design works in Taiwan are not newest on the world, I still learn lots of things from schools and the environment of my country. I desire to become an architect and I will keep developing my knowledge and ability.

This paper sounds very formal. Make it more personal and informal. This is about you not a formal research paper.
